-Tamara Rodgers is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge Officer, formerly working as both teacher librarian and English teacher in Western Sydney high schools. She has a passion for social media both personally and professionally, having worked with the Department’s Social Media and Corporate Communications units on the development of DoE Social Media training, and implementing successful Instagram and Facebook pages for her schools and library.
Workshop 1 - How to get social!
You can find her on her blog tamarareads.com, on Instagram @tamarareads, and follow the growing PRC insta account @NSWPRC. She’s always happy to see a good cat pic, and never gets tired of people sharing Neil Gaiman posts with her, or that cool library cake that seems to make the rounds every year or so – her record is being tagged in it 14 times in one day.
This session will focus on practical strategies to implement a social media presence for your school library, and tips for using social media for teaching and learning. Using your phones is encouraged.
Workshop 2 - Get your kids reading!
Tamara Rodgers has extensive experience as both a Teacher Librarian and a high school English teacher, and is currently the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge Officer, so has a vested interest in developing a strong reading culture in schools! She has been obsessed with stories from a very young age, and loves the opportunity that books provide to challenge ideas, create connections, and explore other worlds. Tamara believes that there is a book out there somewhere to engage and inspire everyone, and relishes the opportunity to help connect readers with the stories that are going to speak to them. Her favourite childhood book is Alice in Wonderland, and favourite author (at the top of a very long list of favourite authors!) is Neil Gaiman. If you want to strike up a conversation with her, ask her if she’s looking forward to the upcoming TV adaptation of Good Omens, or tell her who your favourite Doctor is (bonus points if you’re a Tom Baker fan).
This session will focus on practical strategies to engage students in reading for pleasure.
