Quick Connects
What is it all about?
An opportunity for presenters to share some of their experiences in a relaxed and casual forum.
How will it work?
Each session will be divided into three shorter mini-sessions of 10 minutes each. This means that each presenter will present the same information three times.
On the day, delegates will choose who they would like to ‘visit’. Each presenter will be set up at a table with their own laptop and some chairs.
The format will be like a ‘show-and-tell’, where the presenters can engage in casual dialogue with a small audience and share their thoughts and experiences.
Ten tables will be set up, providing ten presenters the opportunity to share their experience(s) around the theme ‘Beyond the Library Walls: Community and Collaboration’.
Please see below for Quick Connect session details.
Amy Wales - Promoting the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge in a primary school setting to support students in engaging with quality literature.
Amanda Craig - Creating a learning space that students can connect and engage with to promote a sense of belonging and inclusiveness.
Laura and Nyssa - Graphic Novels
Thinking about starting a graphic novel section for your primary school library?
Join Laura and Nyssa as they share their experiences in developing this aspect of their library collection and offer insight into appropriate titles that will engage reluctant and not-so-reluctant readers.
Sharlene Evans
Having the library open at lunch time, with a clear timetable of structured activities for students to participate in, is a prime opportunity to advocate for student engagement with library facilities. This quick connect session will detail our school’s “Serial Book Readers Club”, as the latest addition to the repertoire of soft entry approaches being used at lunch in our school library.
Julie Hoey
Stage 6 students will follow pathways into university, TAFE, apprenticeships, employment, and...life. What do they need from their school library?
Julie is into her second year as TL at a senior (Stage 6) school in Newcastle. Prior to that, she was a reference librarian at a tertiary academic library for two years. She will be discussing her efforts so far to support the Stage 6 syllabus by providing targeted resources and enrichment resources…then trying to ensure they’re used. Depending on time and participant interest, she might also look at opportunities for strengthening students’ information literacy, research skills, and referencing proficiency.
Steve Spargo - Walker Books
In this session, Steve will present a highlight of YA fiction (e.g. new titles, coming soon, trending now, favourites etc).
Belinda Cunningham - Harry Hartog
Taking about children's books that she finds exciting and that may appeal to niche's that will be interesting and useful for teacher librarians. She will also talk about trends they are experiencing across the age group.
Literary Giants
